Menteng park to open in April
City News – March 07, 2007

JAKARTA: The construction of the controversial Menteng Park sports center in Central Jakarta is almost complete and the venue is expected to open in April.

The park used to be the soccer field of Jakarta city football club Persija.

The new center will include basketball, badminton and futsal facilities, skate and jogging tracks and a gymnastics arena.

A three-story parking lot attached to the center can accommodate up to 175 cars.

“After completing the construction of the facility, we’re now working on the landscaping,” said city park agency head Sarwo Handayani.

The construction of the 3.5-hectare park started in October 2006, at a total cost of Rp 32 billion (US$ 3.5 million). -JP
