Residents set up environmental forum

JAKARTA: Residents of Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, have set up a forum to improve cooperation in dealing with natural disasters such as floods.
The Kelapa Gading Society Forum for the Environment was established a month after severe flooding inundated homes and businesses in the area.
“Kelapa Gading is situated in a low-lying area. The area, where about 60,000 people live, is very prone to flooding,” forum chairman Soedirman was quoted as saying by Antara on Saturday.
He said the forum was open to all residents and businesses in Kelapa Gading.
“We will also cooperate with the government to resolve environmental problems, especially flooding,” he said. –JP
